HIP REPLACEMENT
Hip arthritis can present with chronic anterior groin pain. Hip replacements can be a permanent solution to this arthritis. In fact hip replacement was voted the patient’s best operation of the 20th century.
Approach: Dr Bond uses a minimally invasive and universal posterior approach
Prosthesis : An uncemented prosthesis is generally used, Kingfisher – metal head on polyethylene cup
Surgery: Average 3 days admission,1 hour 15 minute operation
First day in High Care Unit for pain and medical management

Post-operative protocol, immediate full weight bearing day one
Home once you can walk stairs and are safe to mobilize independently
Can apply for rehabilitation unit if unsafe, frail and elderly – Spescare or Groenkloof
